Cristiano Ronaldo's Hamstring Injury Leaves Al Nassr in a Bind

Al Nassr faces uncertainty as captain Cristiano Ronaldo is sidelined due to a hamstring injury sustained during a recent match.

Al-Nassr is grappling with the troubling announcement that their team captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, has suffered a significant hamstring injury. This happened during a recent game in the Saudi Pro League against Al-Fayha. Ronaldo was visibly in pain when he exited the pitch late in the match.

The injury comes at a precarious time amid rising geopolitical tensions in the region, raising questions about the future of the 41-year-old forward in the Middle East.

On March 1, 2026, the club confirmed Ronaldo’s diagnosis and stated that he has begun rehabilitation. They noted: “Cristiano Ronaldo has been diagnosed with a hamstring injury after the last game against Al Fayha. He started a rehabilitation program and will be under evaluation day by day.” However, no concrete return date was specified.

On February 28, during the latter part of the game against Al-Fayha, Ronaldo attempted a penalty in the 12th minute but missed. He was substituted in the 81st minute by Abdullah Al-Hamdan after signaling for help.

Now, uncertainties surround Ronaldo’s availability for the upcoming matches against Neom SC and Al-Khaleej, along with international friendlies for Portugal against Mexico and the USMNT.

Furthermore, rumors have surfaced about Ronaldo’s departure from Saudi Arabia following a drone attack near the U.S. embassy in Riyadh. Reports indicate that Ronaldo’s private jet left for Madrid, leading to speculation about his safety amidst these tensions. Yet, sources have countered that this does not mean he has abandoned his commitments and that he’s actively undergoing treatment.

In light of these disruptions, the Asian Football Confederation announced that certain matches, including an important Champions League clash involving Al-Nassr, will be postponed to ensure player safety during these uncertain times.
