Travis Etienne Joins Saints: New Orleans RB Landscape Shifts, Boosting Etienne's Fantasy Outlook

The signing of Travis Etienne by the New Orleans Saints raises questions about Alvin Kamara's future while bringing potential for a fantasy breakout.

The Saints have finalized a four-year contract with running back Travis Etienne worth $52 million. This move creates uncertainty around Alvin Kamara’s role in New Orleans, while also identifying Bhayshul Tuten as the likely successor in Jacksonville’s backfield.

Travis Etienne, hailing from Louisiana, is poised to lead the Saints’ offense in 2026 after a stellar 2025 season with the Jaguars, where he amassed 260 carries for 1,107 yards and seven touchdowns, along with 36 catches for 292 yards and six receiving touchdowns. His impressive performance averaged 16.3 PPR points per game—his second-highest average in his career.

Without Kamara sharing the workload, Etienne has the potential to emerge as a top running back across the leagues. However, if Kamara remains on the roster, fantasy players should be cautious, considering drafting Etienne as early as Round 4, looking for nearly 300 total touches like he achieved in 2025 with the Jaguars.

As a proficient receiver, Etienne boasts at least 35 receptions in every season of his career, including a peak of 58 catches in 2023. Despite this, his upside could be compromised if Kamara continues to share backfield duties.

Alvin Kamara, aged 31, recently restructured his contract, and it is desirable for the Saints to free him to maximize Etienne’s fantasy value, particularly given Kamara’s recent struggles, which included missing the final six games of the 2025 season due to a sprained MCL. Kamara’s poor performance saw him averaging a career-low of 9.2 PPR points per game. If he remains as a backup, his value will undoubtedly decrease.

Meanwhile, Jacksonville is left searching for a new leader in the backfield. Tuten, who had minimal opportunities behind Etienne as a rookie—recording 83 carries for 307 yards and five touchdowns—now has the possibility of taking over as the No. 1 option. His performance includes a standout game where he scored 13.4 PPR points against the Chargers.

Moving forward, Etienne might become a fantasy standout, while Tuten looks to capitalize on the void left by Etienne as they prepare for a new season.
