USA Defender John Tolkin to Miss Weeks Due to Knee Injury Ahead of 2026 World Cup

John Tolkin, a U.S. defender, is sidelined for several weeks due to a knee ligament injury sustained before the World Cup.

U.S. defender John Tolkin will be sidelined for “the coming weeks” due to a knee ligament injury, according to his German club, Holstein Kiel. The injury occurred during a second-division match against Fortuna Duesseldorf last Friday, and the club stated he is currently undergoing conservative treatment.

Kiel announced on platform X:
“As a result, the 23-year-old will not be available to us in the coming weeks. We wish you a speedy recovery, dear John!”

The U.S. team set to participate in the World Cup will be unveiled on May 26. Tolkin is in contention to play left back alongside Antonee Robinson and Max Arfsten, who featured in the team’s recent defeats against Belgium and Portugal.

Tolkin has appeared in 10 games for the United States, with his last match being a 5-1 victory over Uruguay in November. He was also part of the U.S. Under-23 squad that reached the quarterfinals of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
