Odds Favor Suns for Jimmy Butler's Next Team Following Tensions with Heat

Updated odds indicate the Phoenix Suns are the preferred destination for Jimmy Butler after recent tensions with the Miami Heat.

Recently, Pat Riley, team president of the Miami Heat, made remarks suggesting that six-time All-Star Jimmy Butler is set to stay with the team for the foreseeable future.

“We are not trading Jimmy Butler,” were Riley’s exact words.

However, recent developments have cast doubt on that situation as turmoil has seemingly arisen.

DraftKings Sportsbook has now released odds regarding Butler’s next team following the February 6 trade deadline:

  • Suns: +110 (bet $10 to win $21 total)
  • Heat: +300 (bet $10 to win $40 total)
  • Grizzlies: +550 (bet $10 to win $65 total)
  • Pelicans: +750 (bet $10 to win $85 total)

The latest news points to the fact that Butler is reportedly unwilling to re-sign with several franchises, which indicates a shift towards the Phoenix Suns, the team he reportedly favors.

Riley’s assertion about Butler’s status came shortly after an ESPN report indicated that Butler is interested in a trade before the February 6 deadline, having the Warriors and Suns as his top choices.

Since Riley’s comments, Butler and the Heat appear to be drifting apart in their relationship.

This tension escalated when during a recent press conference, Butler was asked about finding joy in playing for Miami.

“Probably not,” Butler was quoted as saying.

In response to the growing issues, the Heat suspended Butler for seven games, signaling their willingness to entertain offers for the disgruntled star.

Currently, the Heat’s record stands at 3-2 in the initial five games of Butler’s suspension.

As for Butler’s performance this season, he is averaging 17.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.7 assists. Over six seasons with the Heat, Butler has led the team to two NBA Finals, losing to the Lakers in 2020 and the Nuggets in 2023.

Presently, the Heat are placed seventh in the Eastern Conference standings, while the Suns sit at the tenth spot in the Western Conference.
