In a thrilling UFC Fight Night event, Song Yadong emerged victorious against Henry Cejudo after a controversial eye poke led to a technical decision.

SEATTLE – In an eventful UFC Fight Night, Song Yadong faced Henry Cejudo, where the match concluded in an unexpected and controversial manner when a severe eye poke left Cejudo unable to continue the fight.

The bout was stopped after three rounds when Cejudo informed his corner that he could not see after receiving the poke from Song. Cejudo utilized his entire recovery period but ultimately decided to proceed. Despite competing through Round 3, the situation led the referee, Jason Herzog, to stop the fight to consult the doctor. Because three rounds were completed, official judges’ scorecards were used to declare Song the winner with scores of 29-28, 29-28, and 30-27. This decision awarded Song a significant victory against a former champion. Notably, Cejudo is now on a losing streak, having lost all three fights since his return from retirement.

“I can’t f—ing see,” Cejudo expressed to his corner during the stoppage.

Cejudo’s choice to fight through the discomfort has raised questions about fighter safety, especially as Song displayed a small but clear advantage during the bout, landing more strikes. Post-fight, Song expressed remorse over the outcome and showed respect for Cejudo, saying, “Sorry, that was totally an accident. I’m so sorry, Henry. We should run this back.”

“We’re about to be brothers, Bisping… I can’t see from the left. If I can’t see, he’s going to hurt me,” Cejudo stated post-fight, indicating the concerning nature of the injury.
