NBA Cancels Rockets-Hawks Match Amid Atlanta's Winter Storm

Due to severe weather conditions, the NBA has postponed the Saturday game between the Houston Rockets and Atlanta Hawks.

The game between the Houston Rockets and Atlanta Hawks scheduled for Saturday has been postponed due to a winter storm.

The NBA announced that the decision was made “to prioritize the safety of the players, fans and staff due to the severe weather and hazardous icy conditions in the Atlanta region.”

The league indicated that the new date for the rescheduled game will be announced soon. The Rockets’ team flight arrived in Atlanta before the postponement was declared.

A winter storm blanketed the Atlanta area on Friday, and roads were anticipated to refreeze by Saturday night. Power outages rose around Atlanta on Friday as falling trees caused problems with power lines, affecting over 110,000 customers primarily in the Atlanta vicinity.

On another note, four passengers were injured following a Delta Air Lines jet heading for Minneapolis that had to abort its takeoff. Delta representative Morgan Durrant mentioned that there was an engine issue.

Though this incident occurred amid the snowstorm that led to widespread cancellations and delays at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, officials were unable to confirm if the problem was weather-related.

All aboard, which included 201 passengers, two pilots, and five crew members, evacuated the Boeing 757-300 using inflatable slides and were bused back to the terminal. One injured passenger required hospital treatment, while three received first aid at the airport.
