The U.S. women’s national team (USWNT) remains undefeated in the 2025 SheBelieves Cup, currently in second place behind Japan with a key match against them on Wednesday.
In the ongoing tournament, Japan leads with six points and a goal differential of plus-seven. Despite the high stakes, head coach Emma Hayes emphasized the importance of expanding the player pool, as every squad member has played so far.
“The objectives for the camp were to deepen the playing pool by giving opportunities to less experienced players in high-pressure situations. So I think we’ve achieved that by playing everybody in our squad in these first two games,” stated Hayes following their match against Australia.
By rotating players effectively, the team has showcased its depth. Notably, Michelle Cooper, who recently scored her first senior-level national team goal, contributed significantly in the game against Australia.

The USWNT is eager to demonstrate their capabilities against Japan, with players getting their first opportunities and making significant contributions. This upcoming match is vital not only for the title but also as a measure of their growth and potential as a team.
