NHL Delays Kings' Match due to Wildfires in Los Angeles

The NHL has postponed the Los Angeles Kings' home game as significant wildfires threaten the area, affecting thousands.

The NHL has decided to postpone the Los Angeles Kings’ home game against the Calgary Flames as several massive wildfires burn across the greater Los Angeles area.

The Kings were set to play in their downtown arena, where the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers are due to host the Charlotte Hornets the following night.

“Our hearts are with our entire Los Angeles community,” the Kings said in a statement. “We appreciate the hard-working first responders who are diligently working to contain the fire and protect our community. We appreciate the league’s support in keeping our fans, staff, and players safe.”

“Nosotros estamos con nuestra comunidad de Los Ángeles,” dijeron los Kings en una declaración. “Agradecemos a los valientes primeros respondedores que trabajan arduamente para contener el fuego y proteger nuestra comunidad. Agradecemos el apoyo de la liga por mantener a nuestros fanáticos, personal y jugadores a salvo.”

The NFL is also monitoring the situation carefully, considering its potential implications on both Los Angeles teams’ preparations and the Rams’ upcoming wild-card playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings at SoFi Stadium on Monday night.

On Wednesday, three major fires were active in the Los Angeles metroplex, disrupting the lives of at least 70,000 people and destroying over 1,000 structures.

The Rams and Chargers have both enacted measures to address the challenges posed by the fires, with the Chargers adjusting their practice plans to lessen their athletes’ exposure to the outdoors.

The Rams emphasized that none of their players or staff have been affected by the fires thus far. They are located about 13 miles from the hardest-hit Pacific Palisades, separated by the Santa Monica Mountains.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by the fires,” Rams star Cooper Kupp shared on social media. “Thank you to the firefighters, first responders, and everyone else doing their best in unfathomable circumstances.”

“Nuestros pensamientos y oraciones están con todos los afectados por los incendios,” compartió el jugador estrella de los Rams Cooper Kupp en las redes sociales. “Gracias a los bomberos, primeros respondedores, y a todos los que hacen su mejor esfuerzo en circunstancias incomprensibles.”

Tragically, at least two fatalities have been reported in connection with the wildfires.

The Kings have announced that tickets for the postponed game will remain valid for the rescheduled date, which is yet to be determined.
