Mavericks Await Recovery Timeline for Injured Star Kyrie Irving
Dallas guard Kyrie Irving is anticipated to remain sidelined for one to two weeks due to a bulging disc in his back. Mavericks coach Jason Kidd remarked that no precise timeline for Irving’s return has been established.
In a statement before the Mavericks face off against the Memphis Grizzlies, Kidd remained vague about Irving’s injury details, stating:
“He’s out, so there’s nothing I can speculate or comment (on). It’s been reported he’s out a week or two.”

When further pressed about the timeline for recovery, Kidd said:
“Give me 48 hours to get that answer.”

Irving is currently the second-leading scorer for the Mavericks, averaging 24.3 points per game while shooting nearly 50% from the field and 44.1% from beyond the arc. His injury poses yet another challenge for the Mavericks’ offensive strategy.
Meanwhile, leading scorer Luka Doncic, who averages 28.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 7.8 assists, is also anticipated to miss the game against the Grizzlies due to a left calf strain.
With both Irving and Doncic absent, the team is missing a total of 52.4 points per game.
Kidd emphasized the need for a collective effort:
“It’s important for everyone in uniform. Being short-handed, it’s the next-man-up mentality. We can’t replace Luka or Ky, so it’s going to take a team effort.”

As of Monday, Dallas holds a record of 20-15 and stands in third place in the Southwest Division, trailing first-place Houston by three games.
