Suns' Strategy Shift: Beal and Nurkić Benched as Trade Talks Heat Up

The Phoenix Suns head coach Mike Budenholzer announces major lineup changes by benching stars Bradley Beal and Jusuf Nurkić amid trade rumors involving Jimmy Butler.

The head coach of the Phoenix Suns, Mike Budenholzer, revealed his plan to bench Bradley Beal and Jusuf Nurkić for their upcoming game against the Philadelphia 76ers, as reported by Chris Haynes.
This decision follows a challenging stretch for the Suns, who have lost four consecutive games and currently hold a record of 15-18, ranking 12th overall. Their most recent victory was against the Denver Nuggets on Christmas.

In addition, there are ongoing discussions about a potential trade for Jimmy Butler, a star player for the Miami Heat, who is currently serving a seven-game suspension due to actions deemed detrimental to the team.

Ryan Dunn, the 28th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, will replace Beal in the starting roster. Dunn has shown an average of 6.5 points per game with a shooting percentage of 43.3% in his 29 appearances this season. Beal, a three-time All-Star, is averaging 17.8 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game.

Mason Plumlee will step into the starting lineup for Nurkić, who has played in all 23 games he’s been able to this season. Plumlee’s played in 32 games this season, tying for the highest on the team with Tyus Jones.
