On the eve of the NFL Scouting Combine’s on-field workouts, a handful of players are still flying under the radar. I’m looking to change that by highlighting some of my favorite prospects who haven’t gotten enough credit so far in the pre-draft process.
The list starts with one of the most productive quarterbacks in FBS history and continues with a running back who dealt with eligibility concerns and a wide receiver who is still relatively unknown despite a breakout season. On defense, there’s an undersized defensive tackle, a small-college edge rusher, and a linebacker whose 2024 season was cut short due to injury.
Quarterback: Dillon Gabriel, Oregon
All Gabriel has ever done between UCF and Oklahoma is play exceptional football. He averaged 9.2 yards per attempt with 29 touchdowns and only seven interceptions as a true freshman in 2019, then led Oregon to the No. 1 ranking in the nation as a sixth-year player.

Running back: Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Arizona
Croskey-Merritt’s season was limited by eligibility concerns, but in his one game he recorded 106 yards on 13 carries, proving his electric speed and footwork.
Wide receiver: Kyle Williams, Washington State
Williams had an astounding breakout season with 70 catches for 1,196 yards and 14 touchdowns, showcasing elite speed and route-running capability.
Tight end: Harold Fannin Jr., Bowling Green
At 6-foot-3, 238 pounds, Fannin’s agility makes him a valuable asset for any NFL offense.
Offensive tackle: Charles Grant, William & Mary
One of the most athletic linemen in the draft, Grant’s elite mirroring skills make him a valuable prospect.
Interior offensive line: Willie Lampkin, North Carolina
Although undersized for a guard, Lampkin’s tape showcases why he is a hidden gem.
Defensive tackle: C.J. West
A consistent defensive presence, West is known for his raw power and ability to disrupt plays.
Defensive end: David Walker, Central Arkansas
Known for his explosiveness and leverage, Walker is a formidable presence on defense.
Linebacker: Nick Martin, Oklahoma State
Blessed with speed and tackling abilities, Martin hopes to return strong after injury.
Cornerback: Benjamin Morrison
Since freshman year, Morrison has been a standout for Notre Dame with a remarkable interception rate.
Safety: Kevin Winston Jr., Penn State
Despite injuries hampering his last season, Winston’s excellent performance in previous years makes him an intriguing prospect.
The 2024 NFL Draft will take place from April 25-27 in Detroit. More coverage can be found at CBSSports.com.
