La Liga's Javier Tebas Draws Parallels Between Manchester City and Enron in Financial Controversy

La Liga president Javier Tebas has made serious allegations against Manchester City, claiming they mask financial losses using various companies, similar to the Enron scandal.

La Liga president, Javier Tebas, has alleged that Manchester City may be involved in a financial scandal reminiscent of that of Enron. He has stated that the club purportedly disguises their financial losses within various associated companies to enhance their overall financial image.

In his remarks at the Financial Times Business of Football Summit, Tebas expressed concerns regarding this issue, suggesting that it mirrors the notorious Enron case where financial information was manipulated to present a favorable outlook. He emphasized the importance of transparency within football organizations and noted that La Liga has filed a complaint with the European Commission about the matter.

Tebas stated:

“The City case is one where we believe they have put the losses on the companies that are not officially part of CFG (City Football Group). You remember the case in the USA, the Enron case.”

This accusation comes in light of ongoing scrutiny into how City finances its operations, raising alarms about fairness and equity across European football. City has denied any wrongdoing, maintaining that their accounts clearly show compliance with financial regulations.
