Chicago Bulls Set to Honor Derrick Rose with Jersey Retirement Next Season

The Chicago Bulls announce plans to retire Derrick Rose's jersey, recognizing his impactful legacy in the team.

The Chicago Bulls have officially announced plans to retire Derrick Rose’s jersey during the next season.

The announcement came on Saturday when team president and CEO Michael Reinsdorf informed the former MVP of this honor. Rose’s number 1 will be retired sometime in the 2025-26 season, joining legends such as Michael Jordan (23) and Scottie Pippen (33) in the rafters.

“Derrick is both a hometown hero and a symbol of an entire era of Bulls basketball,” said chairman Jerry Reinsdorf.

Moreover, this announcement coincides with tributes in honor of Rose, who retired last September after a notable 16-season career, during the Bulls’ game against the New York Knicks.

The Bulls are set to unveil the “Derrick Rose Experience” showcasing memorabilia from his career in the United Center’s atrium, while both teams will don themed shirts featuring the date and the player’s relevant numbers. Fans can expect various moments throughout the game acknowledging Rose’s impact on the franchise.

Rose made history as the youngest MVP in NBA history, achieving this milestone at the age of 22. His career, however, was marred by injuries, especially a significant knee injury in the 2012 playoffs, impacting his time and performance with the Bulls.

Derrick Rose averaged 17.4 points per game over his career and significantly contributed to the Bulls during his prime years.
