The headline is going to say “Busts 1.0” because that’s the topic. But I don’t think it’s fair to call these guys busts – yet. My definition of a bust is a player’s value relative to his cost. And we’re a long ways away from a good representation of average draft position data, which likely won’t happen until August. With that in mind, I’d rather label these players as guys I don’t plan to draft this season. I’m factoring in expected ADP – and age, mostly – but things could change as we see what develops with free agency and the NFL Draft.
You can choose to avoid these eight players as well. Or these might be players you covet if the price is right. We’ll find out in the next few months. But, for now, these are guys I plan to avoid in my Fantasy leagues in 2025.
1. Saquon Barkley
Barkley was the No. 1 running back last season at 22.2 PPR points per game and is expected to be drafted early in the 2025 season, but I anticipate a decline in his production. He carried the ball 345 times for 2,005 yards and scored 13 touchdowns, on top of his 33 catches for 278 yards and 2 touchdowns. This means a lot of wear and tear (a staggering 436 carries). The trend for past 2,000-yard rushers isn’t positive, with most suffering declines in the following season.
2. James Conner
Conner had a great season in 2024 at an average of 15.9 PPR points per game, but he turns 30 in May which raises flags considering his injury history. He is effective but could become less so moving forward, especially if drafted in an early round.
3. Aaron Jones
With uncertainty surrounding his free agency, I am cautious about drafting him unless he lands in a favorable position that influences his value positively.
4. Mike Evans
Evans has delivered consistently but will be under scrutiny due to his age and performance drop-off. Unless drafted late, I’m avoiding him.
5. Davante Adams
Adams is in a precarious situation with unclear expectations after a mixed performance in 2024.
6. Deebo Samuel
He has shown flashes but also needs a change and could be someone I’m reluctant to take early.
7. Cooper Kupp
Kupp’s age and inconsistent past season raise concerns. I would advise against early investment in him.
8. Travis Kelce
Kelce might still be viewed as a top tight end, but a significant drop in his performance from previous seasons might make him less appealing.
