The 2026 FIFA World Cup final, to be held at MetLife Stadium, will create history with its first-ever halftime show, FIFA president Gianni Infantino has disclosed.
Coldplay’s lead vocalist Chris Martin will assist FIFA in finalizing the artists’ lineup for the spectacle scheduled for July 19, 2026. Historically, World Cup finals have not included halftime performances—illustrated by the 2022 final in Qatar, which featured a complete closing ceremony before the game’s kick-off featuring popular artists like Gims and Ozuna.
Infantino stated on Instagram, “I can confirm the first-ever halftime show at a FIFA World Cup final in New York New Jersey. This will be a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup and a show that reflects the significance of the world’s premier sporting event.”
Traditionally, mid-game performances have been a hallmark of the Super Bowl, with artists like Kendrick Lamar captivating audiences last month. FIFA has yet to decide whether to extend the standard 15-minute halftime period to accommodate the show.
In addition to the halftime performance, a “takeover” in Times Square is planned for the final weekend, with Infantino expressing enthusiasm for hosting two high-profile matches in the iconic location.
