Tiger Woods Opts Out of 2025 Players Championship, Focuses on Upcoming Masters

Tiger Woods has decided to forgo participation in the 2025 Players Championship as he prepares for the Masters in April.

Tiger Woods has decided not to participate in the PGA Tour’s flagship event, The Players Championship. His name was notably absent from the list of commitments by the Friday deadline ahead of the upcoming event at TPC Sawgrass.

The 2025 Players Championship is significant as it marks the last year of Woods’ automatic eligibility due to his victory at the 2019 Masters. Woods is anticipated to enter next month’s Masters without having competed in a tournament this year.

Initially, Woods had committed to the 2025 Genesis Invitational, a tournament he hosts, but withdrew shortly after citing that he was not ready to return to golf following the loss of his mother, Kultida.

Despite not playing, Woods has been active with his simulator golf league, TGL, though he faced elimination from playoff contention recently. In his own words during a recent TGL outing, Woods shared: “This is the third time I’ve touched a club since my mom passed. My heart’s not really into practicing right now… Once I start feeling a bit better, I’ll look into the [PGA Tour] schedule.”

For Woods to qualify for future Players Championships, he would need to win a PGA Tour event, secure a place in the top 50 of the Official World Golf Rankings, or rank among the top 70 in the 2025 FedEx Cup.

Woods has not competed on the PGA Tour since last season’s final major but remains engaged with the Tour in other capacities, including participating in discussions regarding potential negotiations with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund to unify the sport.
