Duke freshman Cooper Flagg's ankle injury raises questions about his availability for the NCAA Tournament, but indications suggest he will return in time.
Duke freshman Cooper Flagg is sidelined for the upcoming ACC Tournament finals due to an ankle injury sustained during a recent match against Georgia Tech. However, there are optimistic signs that he will return for the NCAA Tournament.
NCAA’s Senior VP for Basketball, Dan Gavitt, revealed that the selection committee is in touch with Duke and the ACC regarding Flagg’s condition ahead of the bracket reveal on Selection Sunday. Gavitt stated, “What we understand from communication with Duke and the ACC is that Cooper Flagg will be available for the NCAA Tournament.”
Flagg’s injury occurred late in the first half during a defensive rebound, leading to immediate concern as he was attended to on the court.
X-rays were negative, and Duke will continue to monitor his recovery as they prepare for the tournament.
“I’m not breaking any news, but Cooper is not going to play tomorrow,” says Duke coach Jon Scheyer after the win over North Carolina.
