Zambia Excludes Barbra Banda and Three NWSL Players from China Tournament Due to Travel Policy Concerns

Zambia's women's national soccer team is forced to withdraw four players due to U.S. travel restrictions.

The Football Association of Zambia has withdrawn four NWSL players from the women’s national team roster for this month’s Yongchuan International Tournament in China, citing concerns about the new travel policies in the United States.

The trio from Orlando Pride, Barbra Banda, Grace Chanda, and Prisca Chilufya, along with Rachael Kundananji from Bay FC, will no longer travel to China to avoid possible issues when re-entering the U.S. to resume club play.

“The FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga stated that the four players are not available due to new travel measures introduced by the U.S. government. Acting on the advice from the Zambian mission in Washington and the clubs involved, the decision was made to withdraw the players from this assignment.”

These players are expected to be eligible for future matches.

It is unclear which specific travel policies prompted this concern. Under the new U.S. administration, many individuals have reportedly faced border patrol issues despite having valid documentation.
