Reflecting on Missed Opportunities: Arenado's Near Move to the Red Sox

Nolan Arenado showcases impressive power in a home game while reflecting on what could have been if he had joined the Red Sox instead of Alex Bregman.

BOSTON — Nolan Arenado launched homers over the Green Monster multiple times during the home opener for the Boston Red Sox against his current team, the St. Louis Cardinals. Fenway Park provides an ideal environment for right-handed hitters, with a short distance of 310 feet down the left-field line.

“Guys feel comfortable,” said Alex Cora, manager of the Red Sox, before the game. “Especially righties. That’s something we have noticed.”
Translation: “Los jugadores se sienten cómodos,” dijo Alex Cora, el mánager de los Red Sox, antes del juego. “Especialmente los diestros. Eso es algo que hemos notado.”

Bregman’s recent signing with the Red Sox highlighted how his power fits well with the team’s dynamics. Before Bregman committed to Boston, Arenado had considered the possibility of linking up with the Red Sox during the previous offseason when the Cardinals were shifting towards a rebuild mode.

“They were one of the teams that were on my list,” Arenado remarked, expressing his mixed feelings about the situation. “But I really don’t feel the need to talk about it much more than that because I’m not coming here. And I’m OK, and I feel good.”

Translation: “Eran uno de los equipos que estaban en mi lista,” comentó Arenado, expresando sus sentimientos encontrados sobre la situación. “Pero realmente no siento la necesidad de hablar de ello más que eso porque no vengo aquí. Y estoy bien, y me siento bien.”

Despite the Cardinals’ struggles in recent seasons, Arenado has not lost faith in their potential.

Alex Bregman affirmed the Red Sox’s promise with his performance during the home opener, alleviating the fears attached to the struggles of past seasons. “I feel like this lineup is going to do special things,” Bregman stated confidently.

“Obviously, playing here, you know how much of a home-field advantage the Red Sox have because of their fans,” Bregman elaborated. “And to be here playing for this organization now, it’s a lot of fun, and I don’t take it for granted.”

Translation: “Obviamente, jugar aquí, sabes cuánto ventaja como local tienen los Red Sox debido a sus aficionados,” elaboró Bregman. “Y estar aquí jugando para esta organización ahora, es muy divertido, y no lo doy por sentado.”

Arenado, for his part, made his mark during the game with a double that highlighted his fit for the Red Sox, capturing the excitement surrounding Fenway Park.

“I love to pull the ball,” Arenado said. “I like that wall a lot.”
Translation: “Me encanta conectar la pelota,” dijo Arenado. “Me gusta mucho esa pared.”

The Cardinals fell short to the Red Sox with a score of 13-9, but not before giving Arenado a taste of what could have been in Boston.
