Paul Pierce's Insight on Rondo's Lakers Title Sentiment
Paul Pierce responds thoughtfully to Rajon Rondo's remark about his Lakers championship potentially surpassing his Celtics title.
Rajon Rondo has left a significant mark on NBA history, particularly with the Boston Celtics where he was pivotal in their 2008 championship victory. Although he achieved celebrity status with the Celtics, Rondo further cemented his legacy by winning another title with their arch-rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers, in 2020.
Rondo, who retired last year, claimed that the Lakers’ title carried more personal significance for him than the one with Boston.
“It meant more from a sentimental point,” Rondo expressed during his recent appearance on “Run It Back”. “It’s something I’ll remember more with my kids. If you have kids you’ll understand.”
He reflected on how his younger self was somewhat complacent during his Celtics era.
“When I was with the Celtics, I’m thinking this is about to be my new normal. But I understand now that it took 12 years later to get one and I appreciated it 10 times more…”
Paul Pierce, who was awarded the Finals MVP in 2008, responded to Rondo’s comments on Thursday’s episode of “Speak” on FS1. He acknowledged Rondo’s feelings, noting that winning a second title elevates one’s status in NBA history, potentially even paving a way for Rondo to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
“That’s fair, Doe. I’m happy for you, my boy.”
The Celtics recently exceeded the Lakers in franchise championships, achieving their 18th title last season. These two storied franchises will reignite their rivalry this Thursday at 10 p.m. ET.
