USWNT Scores Early but Falls to Brazil in Stoppage Time

The U.S. women's soccer team took an early lead against Brazil but ultimately lost 2-1 after conceding a last-minute goal.

The United States women’s national team scored in the first minute of their friendly against Brazil on Tuesday night with a goal from Catarina Macario, but unfortunately, it was not sufficient to secure a win. They ended up losing 2-1 after conceding a late goal in the 95th minute.

There were seven changes to the starting lineup made by U.S. manager Emma Hayes compared to their previous match, which they won 2-0. Notably, forward Trinity Rodman did not play due to a precautionary measure related to a back injury, while goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce was rested after a standout performance previously.

Despite several rotations in the lineup, Macario’s early goal gave the U.S. a promising start just 35 seconds into the match.

Match Highlights:

  • Claire Hutton, a 19-year-old midfielder, played a crucial role by winning the ball deep in the defensive half and making a significant run downfield to assist Macario.
  • Brazil equalized in the 25th minute with a stunning long-range shot from Manchester City’s Kerolin.
  • In a match that had an open and attacking nature, Brazil clinched victory with a goal from Amanda Gutierres in stoppage time.

The U.S. will look to bounce back with upcoming friendlies against China in May and June.
