Didier Deschamps to Resign from France Coaching Position Post-2026 World Cup

Didier Deschamps is reportedly set to step down as the coach of the France national football team following the 2026 World Cup.

France coach Didier Deschamps is expected to announce his departure from the national team on Wednesday, with reports from French media indicating he will not extend his contract post the 2026 World Cup.

According to outlets such as L’Equipe and RMC Sport, the 56-year-old Deschamps plans to leave when his current contract expires in the summer of 2026.

As a World Cup winner during his playing career, Deschamps took over as the head coach of Les Bleus in July 2012 and famously led France to their World Cup victory in 2018, defeating Croatia in the final.

During the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, France made it to the final again, this time losing a dramatic championship match to Argentina.

European teams will field 16 participants at the first-ever 48-team World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico in the summer of 2026.
