Dallas Cowboys Pre-Draft Insights: Jerry Jones Eyes Key Trades and Future Strategies

The Dallas Cowboys are gearing up for the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft with significant trade discussions underway, focusing on enhancing their roster.

FRISCO, Texas – The Dallas Cowboys are set to make significant moves as the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, scheduled for Thursday in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

“We’re looking at two things that could happen before or after the draft. Two pretty substantive trades. Been working on today,” Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones noted during a press conference.

Earlier, Cowboys COO and EVP Stephen Jones indicated they are unlikely to trade up in the draft. This suggests that Jerry Jones is either considering trading back for more picks or pursuing veteran players nearing their second NFL contracts. Potential trade targets include:

  • George Pickens, WR, Steelers: After the Steelers enhanced their roster with Pro Bowl wide receiver DK Metcalf, Pickens sparked trade rumors. He could provide the Cowboys with a valuable asset opposite CeeDee Lamb.
  • Jameson Williams, WR, Lions: With the Lions constrained by salary cap challenges, Williams might be available for a trade this offseason. He had an impressive average of 17.3 yards per reception last season.
  • Kenneth Walker III, RB, Seahawks: Dallas might explore a deal for Walker if they’re dissatisfied with the running back options during the draft. Despite injury setbacks, Walker displayed exceptional abilities with the eighth-most tackles avoided in the NFL last season.

Cowboys prioritize speed with the 12th pick
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer highlighted the importance of speed on the offense. Potential draft picks include Tetairoa McMillan from Arizona or Matthew Golden from Texas if they are available.

Reflecting on drafting strategies, Stephen Jones emphasized, “At the end of the day, you are trying to pick the best player on the board.”

Dallas will likely avoid selecting quarterbacks unless they find a uniquely valuable prospect, given their strong commitment to quarterback Dak Prescott.
