Prominent High School Star Mikey Williams Signs with Sacramento State under Coach Mike Bibby
Mikey Williams, a former blue-chip recruit, has officially committed to play basketball at Sacramento State, joining the program led by Mike Bibby.
Former high school standout and highly rated recruit Mikey Williams has decided to join Sacramento State under the coaching of Mike Bibby. Williams shared the announcement on social media Tuesday, just a day after the school secured NBA legend and Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal as their general manager.
“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of a program that includes a legend like Shaquille O’Neal and to play under the guidance of Coach Bibby,” Williams expressed in an interview. “I’m eager to commit and represent Sacramento State at the highest level.”
Last season, Williams averaged 5.1 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 0.7 assists while spending 14.0 minutes on the court per game at UCF. Originally committed to Memphis, he never got to play for the Tigers. Williams transferred to UCF following an incident in April 2023 that resulted in multiple felony charges related to a gun incident, which were later reduced.
Williams was ranked as the No. 39 overall recruit and the No. 8 combo guard in his class, initially choosing Memphis over offers from Kansas, Arkansas, LSU, Oregon, Tennessee, and USC.
Sacramento State ended the previous season with a record of 7-25, losing in the first round of the Big Sky Tournament.
