Lamine Yamal shook off a late injury scare to retain his position in the Barcelona starting lineup for their Champions League semifinal against Inter Milan.
During warm ups, Yamal appeared to slip while shooting and was seen heading to the locker room earlier than his teammates. Concerns arose about a possible issue with his left groin or thigh with kickoff approaching. However, the 17-year-old took to the field, marking his 100th match for Barcelona just before his 18th birthday. His impressive performance this season has made him one of Europe’s standout wingers, particularly given the absence of Robert Lewandowski, whose role was taken by Ferran Torres.
Yamal expressed confidence ahead of the semifinal, stating, “Fear while playing the game? I left all my fears in the park of my neighborhood, back in Mataro, a while ago.” He is among several Barcelona academy graduates in the lineup and emphasized the dream of winning the Champions League, recalling past victories in 2015.
