Alijah Arenas, a USC basketball recruit and son of former NBA player Gilbert Arenas, has been discharged from the hospital after a severe car crash.
Alijah Arenas, a USC basketball recruit and son of former NBA star Gilbert Arenas, has been discharged from the hospital six days after a severe car accident, which his family announced on Wednesday.
“We are thankful to report that Alijah Arenas is now home and recovering under close observation,” said the family in a statement to ESPN. “While his path to full recovery is starting, his spirit is strong and he is surrounded by love and encouragement. The Arenas and Govan family are preparing with faith for the journey ahead, dedicated to supporting Alijah’s recovery to full health. He is fortunate, resilient, and in good spirits.”
Josiah Johnson, the host of Gilbert Arenas’ podcast, mentioned that although Alijah didn’t sustain major injuries, he was initially placed in an induced coma. Johnson detailed that Alijah was returning from the gym when he “lost control” of the Tesla Cybertruck he was driving in Reseda, a part of the San Fernando Valley. The vehicle crashed into a tree and/or a fire hydrant, with no formal cause of the accident revealed yet.
Arenas, who committed to the Trojans in January, is a Chatsworth High student and a five-star recruit, having made history as the first boys’ player in the region to score 3,000 career points.
