Scheffler came out on fire after a 6-hour delay to masterfully navigate TPC Craig Ranch for the second consecutive day.

One of the primary talking points at the midpoint of the 2025 PGA Tour season has been the surprising absence of wins for the world’s number one golfer, Scottie Scheffler. Despite achieving five top 10 finishes in his eight starts this year鈥攎aintaining a position within the top 25 each time鈥攈e has yet to secure a victory on the Tour.

This situation is particularly shocking considering his dominance last year, where he clinched seven titles on the PGA Tour and added an Olympic gold medal to his achievements. However, it seems he is ready to end his 2025 winless streak while playing on home soil in Dallas, as he continues to impress at TPC Craig Ranch.

Scheffler entered Friday’s second round with a two-shot lead after an exceptional 10-under 61 score, and now, heading into the weekend, he sits at 18 under par following a second-round score of 63, establishing a substantial six-shot lead over the competition.

Though Scheffler began Round 2 with eight consecutive pars, an eagle on the par-5 18th (his ninth hole) was the much-needed spark he required. A delay of 6 hours and 15 minutes due to adverse weather conditions interrupted play just after he teed off on No. 1.

Once play resumed, Scheffler quickly found his rhythm again, kicking off with a birdie at the 1st hole, followed by a series of birdies on the 2nd, 5th, 6th, and 7th holes, showcasing his impressive skills as he played the front nine with ease.

Scheffler rounded out his second round with another birdie on the par-5 9th, closing with a score of 63 and posting a remarkable lead. Remarkably, if only counting his front-nine scores over the first two days, he would still stand as the leaderboard leader with a stunning total of 13 under, which is quite a feat.

His cumulative score of 134 strokes through 36 holes ties the second-lowest in PGA Tour history, second only to Justin Thomas at the 2017 Sony Open. Thomas, alongside three other competitors, who also posted a 134 through two rounds, went on to claim victory that week.

Scheffler’s performance has been solid yet unspectacular on the greens (ranking 25th in strokes gained putting), reflective of how formidable his tee-to-green game has been throughout the tournament. Everyone has been anticipating his return to top form reminiscent of his exceptional play in 2024, and recent performances suggest he might just be finding that routine again.

Now, he faces a longer wait atop the leaderboard as the third round won鈥檛 commence until Saturday afternoon, with the Friday afternoon players still yet to finish their second rounds. This includes nine players currently 6 under par or better, all striving to narrow Scheffler’s impressive lead through the weekend.

The scoring conditions for Saturday morning are expected to be favorable, with light winds around 5 mph and a soft course due to preferred lies being implemented. It will be quite a challenge for others to catch up with Scheffler given his six-shot lead.

In addition, both of Scheffler’s fellow participants in the highly publicized group, Jordan Spieth and Si Woo Kim, secured their birdies on Friday, moving to 6 under par and should advance into the weekend.
