Jose Aldo is stepping away from mixed martial arts once again. After a tough loss to Aiemann Zahabi at UFC 315 on Saturday, the former UFC featherweight champion confirmed his second retirement. Many spectators believed Aldo had won the fight, which continued for three intense rounds in Montreal.
In the first two rounds, both fighters showcased their skills, while Zahabi landed more strikes in the final round. Aldo, however, managed to knock Zahabi down even as the judges awarded the match 29-28 to Zahabi. Interestingly, 75% of MMA media and fans, according to MMA Decisions, felt Aldo deserved the victory.
Aldo expressed his gratitude towards Dana White, Sean Shelby, and Lorenzo Fertitta through a Portuguese interpreter, stating, “I don’t think I have it in me anymore… I just felt there were so many things that happened. It was very tough to go through all this.”
He further elaborated, “My body said no, and I just don’t think I have it anymore. I don’t want to go into war all the time and go through this… I think this is the last time you’re going to see me.”
Aldo, a staple of featherweight discussions, leaves the sport with a notable record of 32 wins and 10 losses. He was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2023.
