The Dallas Mavericks have clinched the top selection in the 2025 NBA Draft after entering the lottery with just a 1.8% chance.

This marks the first time in franchise history the Mavericks will have the number one pick, and they are expected to select standout prospect Cooper Flagg on June 25, to conclude a thrilling season where they traded All-NBA star Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers back in February.

This unexpected victory is noteworthy given the Mavs had the 11th lowest odds entering the lottery and three teams — the Charlotte Hornets, Washington Wizards, and Utah Jazz — each had a 14% chance of winning the top selection.

The Mavericks’ odds of 1.8% will be recorded as the fourth-lowest for securing the top pick since the lottery’s inception in 1985. Interestingly, the Chicago Bulls had a 1.7% chance for this year’s top pick, akin to the odds that helped them acquire future MVP Derrick Rose in 2008.
