Lionel Messi is making his way back to represent Argentina as they prepare for World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Colombia. This comeback comes after the captain missed the March matches due to an adductor injury, despite the team securing their qualification for the next tournament with victories over Uruguay and Brazil.
Argentina will travel to face Chile on June 5 and later host Colombia on June 10 in Buenos Aires. Following these qualifiers, Messi is set to return to the U.S. for the opening match of the FIFA Club World Cup on June 14, where his club Inter Miami will take on Egyptian team Al Ahly.
Notably, Alejandro Garnacho returns to the national squad after being left out of previous games. However, Argentina will be missing key players like Nicolas Otamendi, Enzo Fernandez, and Leandro Paredes due to suspensions. Injuries have ruled out Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Montiel as well. Other absentee defenders include Marcos Acuna and German Pezzella.
