Gio Reyna will not be playing for the United States men’s national team during the 2025 COPAC Gold Cup due to his exclusion from head coach Mauricio Pochettino’s preliminary roster. The Gold Cup starts on June 14, serving as the last competitive outing for the team before the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will take place in the U.S. This decision follows Reyna’s club, Borussia Dortmund, participating in FIFA’s updated Club World Cup at the same time.
Additionally, despite speculation surrounding Reyna’s potential participation in the Gold Cup, it won’t be feasible as the final squad must be selected from the preliminary list by June 4. Coach Pochettino is set to announce his final roster soon, with the U.S. team preparing to face Türkiye and Switzerland in preparation for the tournament.
Other regulars such as Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie are expected to play, with Pulisic approaching a record-breaking season with 17 goals at AC Milan. Reyna’s absence will be noted, especially as the team made adjustments after their recent Nations League matches. The inclusion of striker Ricardo Pepi is ruled out due to a knee injury, while Sebastian Berhalter is among the promising new entrants. Many positions remain competitive as fresh talents are called up thanks to expanded roster sizes for the upcoming matches.
