Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Crowned MVP for 2024-25 NBA Season

Oklahoma City Thunder's Shai Gilgeous-Alexander secures the MVP title, marking a significant milestone in his career.

Oklahoma City Thunder standout Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has made history by becoming the third player in the franchise’s history to claim the NBA MVP title for the 2024-25 season. This accolade was announced on a Wednesday, as reported by multiple sources, including Shams Charania.

Gilgeous-Alexander narrowly defeated the Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokić, a three-time MVP winner. Last season, Jokić secured the 2023-24 MVP title with Gilgeous-Alexander finishing as the runner-up.

Additionally, Kevin Durant (2013-14) and Russell Westbrook (2016-17) are the other two players who have earned the MVP honors with the Thunder.

During the regular season, Gilgeous-Alexander showcased impressive stats averaging an NBA-high of 32.7 points, along with 6.4 assists, five rebounds, 1.7 steals, and one block per game. He achieved remarkable shooting statistics with 51.9% from the field, 37.5% from beyond the arc, and 89.8% from the free throw line. The Thunder finished the season with the best record in the league at 68-14.

Currently, in the postseason, Shai is averaging 29.2 points, 6.6 assists, and 5.8 rebounds per game. The Thunder have advanced to the Western Conference finals, defeating the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round and overcoming the Nuggets in a seven-game series. Oklahoma City won the first game against the Minnesota Timberwolves with Gilgeous-Alexander contributing 31 points, nine assists, five rebounds, and three steals.

Gilgeous-Alexander, a two-time All-NBA selection, is in his sixth year with the Thunder, having been acquired from the L.A. Clippers in 2019 in exchange for Paul George, a six-time All-NBA player. Notably, Gilgeous-Alexander was selected by the Clippers as the #11 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft out of Kentucky.

As of now, he is ranked sixth in Thunder history with 10,405 career points and tenth with 2,092 career assists.
