Pacers Shock Knicks with Unthinkable Comeback in Game 1
The Indiana Pacers executed a stunning comeback against the New York Knicks in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals, overcoming a 14-point deficit in the final minutes of the game.
If you went to bed early on Wednesday night, thinking the Knicks couldn’t possibly lose a 14-point lead against the Pacers with less than three minutes left in Game 1 of the NBA’s Eastern Conference Finals, you might have missed something astonishing. Pacers fans woke up to a stunning turnaround.
The Pacers rallied to tie Game 1, thanks to a barrage of three-pointers from Aaron Nesmith and a buzzer-beater from Tyrese Haliburton. Although Haliburton initially celebrated what he thought was a game-winning three-pointer, his foot was on the line, forcing overtime instead. In a thrilling finish, the Pacers triumphed 138-135, setting an unforgettable tone for the series.
Craig Carton of FOX Sports 1 witnessed the chaotic unraveling in real-time, with co-host Danny Parkins reminding him of the painful moment the next day.
Continuing as a loyal Knicks fan for over 50 years, Carton mentioned, “Last night is the second-worst loss I’ve ever seen as a Knicks fan,” referring to Game 7 of the 1994 NBA Finals when Patrick Ewing’s Knicks fell to the Rockets after being up 3-2 in the series. “No. 1, 1994, Game 7, we call it the ‘John Starks Game.’ Starks struggled with his shots, finishing 0-for-11 from beyond the arc, leading to a painful six-point loss. And then last night! When you’re up 14 points with mere moments left, it’s just brutal!”
