Teenage football star Lamine Yamal has officially signed a contract extension with Barcelona, locking him in until 2031, as announced by the club on Tuesday. The 17-year-old winger played a crucial role in helping the Catalan team secure a domestic treble — winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup through his remarkable goal-scoring, dribbling, and playmaking abilities.
Yamal was pivotal in clinching Barcelona’s 28th league title, scoring the decisive goal in a 2-0 win over crosstown rivals Espanyol just weeks ago. Additionally, Barcelona reached the semifinals of the Champions League this season.
His impressive season totaled 18 goals and 13 assists, topping all of La Liga in assists. Yamal also contributed to Spain’s victory in last summer’s European Championship.
Turning 18 this July, Yamal made his debut at Camp Nou in April 2023 and has already featured in 106 matches for Barcelona. In a statement on X, the club reminded fans, “In 2031, Lamine Yamal will only be 23,” highlighting the young star’s potential. Yamal joined Barcelona’s renowned La Masia academy when he was just 7.
