Sonny Dykes Laughs Off Scheduling in TCU's Season Opener Against Bill Belichick's North Carolina

Sonny Dykes comments humorously on TCU's challenging season opener against North Carolina, where he faces Bill Belichick in his debut coaching role.

TCU will be in familiar territory when it opens the 2025 college football season. The Horned Frogs face a challenging opener on September 1 at North Carolina, with all eyes on the opposing sideline as Bill Belichick makes his debut as coach. Dykes remarked on the coincidence that this opener pits him against another first-time coach. In 2023, TCU faced a turbulent beginning to the season, being heavy favorites against Colorado but faltered.

“Not sure how we pulled that off,” Dykes joked, mentioning the upcoming match against UNC. “It’s considered bad scheduling. I hope we perform better this time around. We didn’t play well last time, but at least we have another shot.”

With expectations for Belichick spanning a wide range, he is an eight-time Super Bowl champion, but transitioning to college football comes with its own set of challenges.

Future Matchups

This game is the beginning of a two-year non-conference series, with TCU and UNC set to clash again in 2026 at the Aer Lingus College Football Classic in Dublin, Ireland.
