In the UEFA Conference League final, Cole Palmer’s performance not only stood out but his behavior afterward kept audiences entertained.
After Chelsea made a comeback to defeat Real Betis 4-1, Palmer showcased his humor by tucking his Player of the Match trophy into his shorts to free up his hands for the microphone:
“I got no pockets, so I put it there,” he quipped.
His post-match press conference retained the lighthearted tone as he engaged with reporters, even asking, “Who gives [the] player of the tournament [award]?” He specifically mentioned teammate Tosin Adarabioyo, jokingly suggesting that Tosin deserved recognition as well.
Palmer praised their manager for brief halftime guidance that altered their play: “He didn’t say much, to be fair. He just said we’re losing too many second balls… I felt we were playing too safe at times…”
This match was another step in Palmer’s quick rise in football, as he aims to make his mark in major finals moving forward. With a history of significant contributions in past matches, he emphasized his love for finals, stating:
“I love finals… I feel like I’ve contributed, so I just like the occasion.”
As for how he plans to celebrate, he humorously remarked, “No comment.”
