2025 French Open Update: Quarterfinals Set for American Men

Tommy Paul and Frances Tiafoe make history, reaching the quarterfinals in the French Open.

The 2025 French Open is underway, with significant developments following the start of the fourth round in both the men’s and women’s singles tournaments on Sunday.

On the men’s side, Carlos Alcaraz, the defending champion and second seed, faced off against the American Ben Shelton for a spot in the quarterfinals. Alcaraz successfully overcame Shelton’s challenge, winning in four sets.

Two other American players made it to the quarterfinals as well. First, Tommy Paul fought past Alexei Popyrin in straight sets, and later in the day, Frances Tiafoe accomplished the same against Daniel Altmaier. With this feat, Paul and Tiafoe became the first American men to reach the quarterfinals since Andre Agassi achieved it in 2003.

Alcaraz’s next challenge will be tougher as he eyes a rematch against top seed Jannik Sinner, who has yet to win the French Open despite reaching the semifinals last year.

Novak Djokovic, a three-time French Open champion, is also performing strongly, having defeated Mackenzie McDonald and Corentin Moutet in straight sets and moving on to face Cameron Norrie.

On the women’s side, Iga Swiatek, the fifth seed, is on her quest for a fourth consecutive French Open title. In a gripping fourth-round match, she came from behind to defeat Elena Rybakina and secure her place in the quarterfinals.

Elina Svitolina, seeded fourteen, took down former finalist Jasmine Paolini in a competitive match, marking her deepest run at Roland-Garros so far.

The 2025 French Open is set to continue with exciting matches and potential upsets as the tournament progresses, ending with the women’s final on June 7 and the men’s final on June 8.
