Cameron Brink's Return from Injury Remains Uncertain as She Resumes Practice
Cameron Brink, the second overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, has not played since suffering a knee injury nearly a year ago, and her return date is still unknown.
As Cameron Brink, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, approaches one full calendar year on the sideline due to a torn ACL and meniscus in her left knee, it’s still uncertain when she will return to the court for the Los Angeles Sparks.
First-year Sparks coach Lynne Roberts spoke to reporters after practice on Tuesday and explained that no date has been set for Brink’s return. While she has progressed to on-court work, she is still performing non-contact drills.
Brink addressed her situation during an episode of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, which aired this Tuesday, revealing she had torn her meniscus along with her ACL.
“It’s all surgically repaired now,” Brink stated. “So, I’m good. It’s just going to take me a couple months to be back.”
Brink was injured on June 18, 2024, during a game against the Connecticut Sun. Early in the match, she attempted to drive to the basket against Brionna Jones but collapsed after her knee buckled from a slight bump. She had to be carried off the court afterward.
She shared on Instagram at the time, “You never think it will happen to you, and despite all the hard work, sometimes it does. This is hard to fathom but I know it will only make me stronger. I will not be derailed and I will continue to love this life - I’m not defined by basketball, but it is something that I love deeply and I will work every day to get back to it. It’s not goodbye basketball; it’s just see you later. I’m always so thankful for your thoughts and prayers.”
There have been few updates regarding Brink’s recovery. She signed with Unrivaled in the offseason but did not play in the 3-on-3 league. During the 2025 WNBA Draft, Holly Rowe announced Brink was expected to return before the All-Star break, currently slated for July 18-19.
With Brink’s episode of Wheel of Fortune filmed at an uncertain date, her mention of being “a couple months” from returning may not correlate with June 3. However, because she hasn’t progressed to contact drills yet, it seems unlikely that she will be on the court soon.
Despite a rookie season filled with temperamental spikes, Brink proved herself as a defensive pillar. In 15 games, she averaged 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 2.3 blocks per game, even with limited playtime.
While it is prudent for the Sparks to be cautious during Brink’s rehabilitation, it is somewhat surprising that nearly a year after her injury, she remains restricted to non-contact drills. It appears she will play at some point this season; however, her timeline remains unclear.
The restructured Sparks, now headed by Roberts with Kelsey Plum leading the offense, are off to a disappointing start with a record of 2-6.
