Cleveland Cavaliers' Darius Garland Undergoes Toe Surgery, Expected to Miss 4-5 Months
Darius Garland of the Cavaliers has had surgery on his injured toe and is set to be sidelined for several months.
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Darius Garland underwent surgery on Monday to correct an issue with his left big toe that had affected his performance during the playoffs. The team confirmed that the operation took place under the expertise of Dr. Nicholas Strasser at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, and involved consultations with team physician Dr. James Rosneck and Dr. Bob Anderson.
Garland had mentioned the discomfort he faced during the previous games, expressing frustration at not being able to perform at his best. “Definitely wasn’t myself. It was pretty uncomfortable, but I tried to do everything to win the game,” he remarked following Cleveland’s exit from the playoffs against the Indiana Pacers.
He will require about 4 to 5 months of treatment and rehabilitation before he can return to basketball activities, potentially coinciding with the start of the next training camp. Despite his injury, Garland managed an average of 20.6 points and 6.7 assists over the regular season, significantly contributing to the Cavaliers finishing atop the Eastern Conference. However, his performance tapered during the playoffs with averages dropping to 18 points and 5.2 assists per game.
