The United States Golf Association has confirmed that the purse for the 2025 U.S. Open will remain at $21.5 million as it returns to Oakmont Country Club. This marks the 10th time the venue has hosted the championship, maintaining its status as the largest prize pool in golf.
In the previous year, Bryson DeChambeau won $4.3 million at Pinehurst No. 2, and this amount will be mirrored for this year’s champion.
“Our purse is $21.5 million. Winner’s check is $4.3 million. We didn’t raise our purse this year,” said USGA CEO Mike Whan. “When I started at the USGA just four years ago, our purse was $12.5 million, so I feel comfortable that we’ve been a leader in moving fast and bigger.”
“We understand the competitive set. We know that this probably isn’t really about the money for the person who puts it there, but at the same time, we want the money to be commensurate with the achievement.”
The current purse keeps the U.S. Open at the forefront of golf major competitions, surpassing The Masters’ payout of $21 million and the PGA Championship’s $19 million. The breakdown of the payouts is as follows:
Position | Payout |
---|---|
1st | $4,300,000 |
2nd | $2,322,000 |
3rd | $1,445,062 |
… | … |
70th | $39,113 |
71st | $38,678 |
This purse, while unchanged, emphasizes the commitment to providing significant rewards for golf’s greatest achievements.
