Karen Weekly Voices Concerns Over NIL and Tampering in College Softball

Tennessee's softball coach expresses her apprehensions regarding NIL agreements and tampering after a key player transfer to Texas Tech.

Tennessee softball coach Karen Weekly recently raised alarms regarding NIL recruiting practices. The Lady Volunteers reached the Women’s College World Series, but post-season tensions have surged.

Weekly stated:

“I think we can all agree on [two] things: 1) women making money in sports is awesome and long overdue; 2) contacting players (directly or indirectly) before their season ends and signing them to NIL deals before they enter the portal is wrong. Money isn’t the issue — tampering is!”

Notably, her statements came shortly after former All-American third baseman Taylor Pannell announced her transfer to Texas Tech, a program rapidly gaining traction in NIL deals. This contrast between recruitment methods raises serious concerns that are echoing throughout college sports.
