Trump Questions Juventus Players on Transgender Athletes During White House Meeting

During their visit to the White House ahead of the Club World Cup, U.S. President Donald Trump raised a question about transgender athletes as Juventus players listened.

During their recent visit to the White House, Juventus players faced an unexpected question from U.S. President Donald Trump regarding transgender athletes. The team, in D.C. for their Club World Cup opener against Al Ain, was approached by Trump who asked, “Could a woman make your team, fellas?” Despite the apparent awkwardness, no one responded to this inquiry.

Following a second prompting, Juventus’ general manager Damien Comolli attempted to navigate the conversation by highlighting their strong women’s team, the reigning Serie A champions. Trump noted, “But they should be playing with women,” suggesting the integrity of women in sports. He continued, “He’s being very diplomatic.”

This unusual exchange unfolded while the team awaited their upcoming match while simultaneously observing Trump answer questions about international matters. The President also signed an executive order earlier in the year banning transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports.

Juventus is set to face Al Ain at 9 p.m. ET.
