Charlie Woods Secures Spot in U.S. Junior Amateur
Charlie Woods, the son of Tiger Woods, impressively clinches his place for a second consecutive U.S. Junior Amateur.
Charlie Woods has secured his place in the U.S. Junior Amateur for the second consecutive year by winning a three-way playoff at Eagle Trace Golf Club in Coral Springs, Florida. The 16-year-old, who is the son of Tiger Woods, posted a score of 1-under 71. However, a bogey on the last hole led to a tie for fifth place alongside Oscar Crowe and Matthew Marigliano, necessitating a playoff.
Five qualifying spots were available, and the first four were claimed by Arth Sinha (5-under), Lucas Gimenez (4-under), Wylie Inman (3-under), and Sohan Patel (3-under). Crowe and Marigliano have been designated as alternates for the upcoming 2025 U.S. Junior Amateur, scheduled for July 21-26 at Trinity Forest in Dallas.
Woods started on hole 10 and was 3-under after eight holes but closed with a bogey on the par-4 18th. Despite this, he maintained his composure through six pars, finishing with a bogey-birdie-bogey stretch that secured his playoff spot.
In his debut at last year’s U.S. Junior Amateur at Oakland Hills, Woods did not make the cut. In contrast, his father, Tiger Woods, has a remarkable history with three U.S. Junior Amateur titles and three U.S. Amateurs before achieving incredible success in professional golf, including 15 major championships and 82 PGA Tour victories, which is tied for the all-time lead.
Recently, Charlie Woods won his first junior tournament at the Team TaylorMade Invitational held at Streamsong resort in Bowling Green, Florida, achieving a three-day total of 15 under par, showcasing his skill and confidence against a competitive field that included some of the top junior players in the nation. As he embarks on his journey in golf, these performances mark a significant milestone, especially as college coaches are beginning to take notice.
