Damon Arnette Returns to NFL with Texans After Three-Year Hiatus

Damon Arnette, a former first-round pick, secures a second chance in the NFL with the Houston Texans after a three-year absence due to legal troubles.

Former first-round selection Damon Arnette is back in the NFL with the Houston Texans after a considerable absence that lasted over three years due to various legal troubles. As per numerous sources, Arnette has signed a one-year contract with the Texans, marking his return to the league for the first time since January 2022.

Arnette expressed that he is back on the field as “the best version of myself that I’ve ever been.” He initially made his comeback to professional football earlier this spring by playing with the UFL’s Houston Roughnecks, where he caught the notice of several teams.

Previously picked by the Raiders as the 19th overall choice in the 2020 NFL Draft, Arnette’s journey has been tumultuous. He was released a year later after a video surfaced showing him making threats while armed, leading to multiple arrests and legal issues.

Arnette has stated that he pursued significant changes in his life and reconnected with his support system during this challenging period. “I had to take a look in the mirror,” Arnette mentioned in an interview, emphasizing the vital role of his rehabilitation journey.

In his last active season with the Raiders, he played in 13 games, accumulating 29 tackles and three pass breakups. As a rising star at Ohio State, he was once considered a top prospect.
