Jacob deGrom’s remarkable season continues as he recently pitched against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday, just after celebrating his 37th birthday.
In this match, he threw six innings, allowing two runs on five hits, while striking out seven with only one walk, which helped his team secure a 7-2 victory.
Remarkably, this achievement marks deGrom’s 12th consecutive start where he has pitched at least five innings while conceding two or fewer runs—setting a new franchise record for the Texas Rangers. He is the first pitcher aged 35 or older to accomplish such a feat since 1900, highlighting not only his exceptional skill but also a significant comeback from injuries.
The current 2025 season comes after his second Tommy John surgery in June 2023, making this season particularly special as he strives for a substantial innings total, which he has not achieved since winning his second Cy Young award back in 2019.
This year, deGrom aims for a remarkable WAR of 5.3, reminiscent of his dominant seasons, and on pace to finish strong as his fastball still averages an impressive 97.1 mph.
