Champagne Celebrations on Hold: The Thunder's Locker Room Dilemma

The Oklahoma City Thunder faced an unexpected delay during their celebration after winning the NBA championship due to a lack of experience in popping champagne bottles.

The Oklahoma City Thunder recently clinched the NBA championship, and as they prepared for the celebratory locker room festivities, excitement was palpable. Traditionally, such celebrations involve a spirited spraying of champagne. However, the Thunder’s celebration faced an unexpected hiccup.

“Where’s the champagne at?” some players shouted eagerly, yet they encountered an unforeseen challenge – many players were inexperienced in the art of popping champagne bottles.
According to center Isaiah Hartenstein, “None of us knew how to do it,” revealing that in a moment of triumph, players turned to YouTube for guidance on how to create the celebratory fizz.

Enter guard Alex Caruso, the team’s oldest player at 31, who was already familiar with the procedure and stepped in to demonstrate how to properly uncork the bottles. Eventually, after a few trials, they managed to get it right. “We didn’t do it all at the same time until, like, the third try,” Caruso remarked determinedly.

The Thunder’s journey this season has been remarkable, with a record of 84 wins, tying them for third place in NBA history. With all key players remaining under contract for the next season, Caruso is optimistic about a smoother celebratory process should they achieve back-to-back championships next year.
“We’ll get some rest, reset, try to go again next year and see if we can do it again,” Caruso stated. “We’ll be better. We’ll be better next year.”
