Montverde Academy Poised for Historic NBA Draft

Several standout players from Montverde Academy are set to make history in the 2025 NBA Draft, with multiple potential first-round selections.

Jeff Osterman knew last spring that the Montverde Academy lineup had a chance to make history in the 2025 NBA Draft, which occurs Wednesday night in Brooklyn. The Florida-based academy, known for developing basketball talent, features projected first-rounders Cooper Flagg, Derik Queen, Asa Newell, and Liam McNeeley.

This group mirrors the notable roster from 2020, which included future NBA stars like Cade Cunningham and Scottie Barnes. The current players are expected to all land in the top 20 selections of this week’s draft, a remarkable achievement in high school basketball.

Osterman stated, “These young athletes were part of the national champions… they are celebrated as possibly the greatest high school team ever.”

Montverde, ultimately finishing the 2023-24 season undefeated, showcases that high school basketball still has plenty of talents ready to be recognized at the professional level. With their unprecedented success, anticipation builds for an evening filled with Montverde names being called during the draft.
