Dennis Schröder Expresses Desire to Stay with Pistons Ahead of Free Agency

Dennis Schröder communicates his wish to remain with the Detroit Pistons as he anticipates free agency, despite uncertainties in contract talks.

Pending free agent guard Dennis Schröder has made his intentions clear regarding his future. Following his acquisition by the Detroit Pistons in a trade with the Golden State Warriors, Schröder had an immediate impact, primarily playing off the bench. Now that his two-year, $25.4 million contract with the Toronto Raptors has expired, his future hangs in the balance.

“I want to stay in Detroit for sure, but Detroit ain’t waiting for me, I can tell you that much,” Schröder stated on a livestream Saturday.

This statement indicates a strong preference to remain, even if the Pistons may not share his urgency as NBA free agency begins Monday at 6 p.m. ET.

In the recent season, Schröder participated in 28 of the last 30 games for Detroit, averaging 10.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 5.6 assists over approximately 25.2 minutes of play. His playoff performance also improved, where he averaged 12.5 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 3.7 assists, contributing to the Pistons’ six-game playoff series against the New York Knicks.

Regardless of whether he continues with the Pistons or transitions to another team, Schröder’s skills and experience will keep him in the spotlight during free agency.
