Rockets Forward Jabari Smith Agrees to Five-Year, $122 Million Contract Extension

Jabari Smith signs a lucrative extension with the Houston Rockets as the team aims for a championship after acquiring Kevin Durant.

The Houston Rockets have officially signed Jabari Smith to a five-year, $122 million extension that is fully guaranteed and will keep him with the team through the 2030-31 season, according to ESPN.

The young forward averaged 12.2 points and 7.0 rebounds over 57 games last season and was entering the last year of his rookie contract. At just 22 years old, he forms a key part of a dynamic core that recently added superstar Kevin Durant.

Smith was the third overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft and earned a place on the All-Rookie Second Team, averaging 12.8 points and 7.2 rebounds during his rookie year. He holds the distinction of recording the fourth-most double-doubles by a player under 20 in NBA history.

Next on the Rockets’ agenda could be an extension for Tari Eason, who was also drafted in the same year as Smith.
