Thunder Secure Contracts for Jaylin Williams and Ajay Mitchell, Strengthening Their Championship Roster
Oklahoma City Thunder extends key contracts to ensure strong post depth moving forward.
On June 29, 2025, the reigning NBA champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder, announced contract extensions for two key role players. Center Jaylin Williams agreed to a three-year deal worth $24 million, while guard Ajay Mitchell signed a new three-year contract estimated at nearly $9 million, as reported by ESPN.
These moves are crucial in solidifying their championship core, with all 15 players from the 2025 title-winning team contracted through the 2025-26 season. Initially, Oklahoma City had opted against the $2.1 million team option on Williams’ previous deal while negotiations for a new contract proceeded.
In the recent NBA Finals, Williams logged only 14 minutes but maintained a career high of 5.9 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, demonstrating his potential impact off the bench. Meanwhile, Mitchell, who was drafted 38th overall by the Thunder last year, had a solid season filled with contributions in 36 games, averaging 6.5 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game.
Both players are now under contract, placing the Thunder in a strong position to address their roster’s future needs, especially as other key players like All-Star Chet Holmgren and MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander face contract renewals in the coming year.
